The Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls wrap up their fourth season with their final home doubleheader at the Fargo Civic Center on Saturday, April 20.
If you’ve never been to a roller derby bout before, this one will be a great introduction to the sport, as two Fargo Moorhead teams battle a pair of South Dakota rivals.
The Fargo Moorhead Furies play the A-Town Roller Girlz from Aberdeen and the Fargo Moorhead Northern Pains take on The Sioux Falls Roller Dollz.
I started volunteering for the Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls a few years ago and it’s a privilege to work with such a dedicated, diverse and talented group of women.
The league is made up of 35 skaters who are split into three teams — The Northern Pains, The Furies, and the newest team, The Banshees.
The bout day atmosphere is electric and the competition is fierce.
Although the ladies adopt derby names and don colorful outfits on the track, this is definitely not the scripted, theatrical roller derby of the past.
It’s gritty, hard-hitting, totally addictive and totally real.

So bring the family, enjoy a couple beers with your friends and come to the Civic to scream with some of the best fans in the world on Saturday night.
There’ll be food, drinks and roller derby merchandise for sale as well as great music, a photo booth and plenty of hard-hitting derby action.
