My Ruffneck Moment

Fargo foodies, rejoice! The hole left in our hearts when JLM Meats and their fabulous, gleefully meat-laden pizzas and sandwiches disappeared has been filled by Ruff Neck Food.

You’ll find Fargo’s newest food stand (technically, I guess it’s a food trailer) more or less permanently moored in the JT Cigarro parking lot in Fargo. Ruffneck is a partnership between a former JLM partner and the JT Cigarro owner and it seems like a perfect match.

I was glad to see some of the old JLM favorites on the Late Night Menu, along with the JLM brand of screwball humor and occasional Ghostbuster reference.

I also love that they serve food after bar close, since their pizzas are exactly the kind of thing that you want to eat after the best party of your life — salty, cheesy and piled high with wonderful, crazy combinations like pulled pork, bacon, buffalo chicken and crushed Doritos. Most Late Night options can be served as a pizza or as a sandwich, and burger and grilled chicken sandwich baskets are available, too.

The Lunch Menu is a little more straight forward — burgers, chill cheese dogs, wraps and salads — but looks equally good. But come hungry. Ruffneck Foods was born on a man camp in the heart of North Dakota oil country, and the menu definitely reflects those origins.

Lovely Sheila, the server, chef, queen of the breakfast and lunch shifts and the creator of all Ruffneck desserts, pointed me to the brand new Breakfast Menu (served all day!) and the popular Breakfast Burrito.

I love breakfast for dinner so I ordered mine with ham (bacon and sausage are also available) and watched Sheila make it up. They shop for fresh ingredients daily and custom make everything for you.

The burrito was fantastic and really filling. (And my amateur food photographer snapshot really doesn’t do it justice.) The tortilla was basic flour (sorry, I’m a corn tortilla snob; it’s a real problem) and packed with eggs, cheese and super crispy tator tots. The Awesome Sauce tied it all together and really sealed the deal for me. It was awesome – smoky with a little slow burn after.
