Street Fair Madness!

Fargo Street Fair Broadway from Main Avenue to 6th Avenue North Thursday, July 19 from 10am-9pm Friday, July 20 from 10am-9pm Saturday, July 21 from 10am-5pm

The Fargo Street Fair is one of my favorite Fargo traditions. For three days every July, Broadway is packed with little white tents full of art, crafts and activities. And the food — most of it concentrated around 2nd Avenue North — is always awesome.

This year, I’m starting with my all time favorites;  gyros from Santa Lucia, a big bag of salty/sugary kettle corn and a strawberry smoothie from Josie’s Corner Strawberry Patch on the US Bank Plaza. I get it every year and I swear, it’s life changing. And you’ll need it this year, because it’s supposed to get wicked hot – again.

I love that downtown vendors are tying into the festivities by creating their own events. Here are three that sound especially cool.

Unglued Craft Fest Under the Big Top On the grass at the corner of Broadway and Main Avenue Thursday, July 19 10am-9pm Check out over 20 crafters and artists, free workshops and music too. Their pop up store and craft fair always have amazing stuff, so I’m sure the Street Fair outing will be no exception. Their crafts and art have a decidedly indie edge, so it’s a perfect place to stock up on cool gifts and unique prints.

Mobile Glass Blowing with Jon Offutt In front of the Plains Art Museum 704 1st Avenue North Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 11am-4pm Hourly demos If you’ve never seen Jon Offutt at work, I can’t recommend it enough. He’s funny and informative and there’s just something hypnotic about watching him work with fire and red hot glass. And his finished pieces are so beautiful!

Downtown Street Farmers Market Broadway from Main Avenue to 1st Avenue South Saturday, July 21 8am-1pm Why didn’t anyone think of this before? Now you can buy fresh produce, herbs and locally made jams and honey to make your own picnic.

Are you going to The Street Fair this weekend? What are you buying? What are you eating? Seriously, I really want recommendations!
