Father’s Day Gift Guide

It’s almost Father’s Day and since I have a little one at home now, it’s been on my mind. Sometimes Father’s Day gifts are almost a cliche — the ties, the tools, the grilling gear — but I think a quality version of a time-honored gift is still a good option…after all, sometimes things are a cliche for a reason!

So if you’re still looking for something for dad, here are some ideas. And a happy early Father’s Day to all you dads out there.

The Fargo Moorhead Red Hawks

For the Sporty Dad: A night at the ballpark. Nothing says summer like a hot dog and a beer on a summer night.

The Minnesota Twins and the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks are two of my favorites, but one day I’ll make it to a Saint Paul Saints or a Winnipeg Goldeyes game, since they’re so close to me and I’ve never been.

For the Foodie Dad: Sauces and Marinades: He only needs one set of tongs (okay, maybe two) but sauces and marinades are the gift that keep on giving. Dakota Slim’s horseradish and barbecue sauce are locally made in North Dakota and both pack a serious punch.

Available locally (and online) at Vintage Point and Sweet Dreams Confections

For the Classic Dad: Cool Cuff Links Maybe it’s all the “Mad Men” episodes I’ve been watching lately, but I’m looking forward to the return of cuff links in men’s wear.

There’s just something so sexy about the resurgence of dapper details in mens’ clothing. If your dad appreciates classic tailoring, a really eye-catching pair of cuff links will be right up his alley.

These are available locally at Baker Garden and Gift

For the Professional Dad: A Really Great Tie If you’re going to give a tie, make sure it’s the best. These imported silk ties by Ted Baker London boast beautiful, unique prints in brilliant patterns and colors, which will set him apart from all the other dads at the office.

Available locally at Shannalee

For the Drinking Dad: Whiskey Stones and Glasses Chances are you’ve driven dad to drink more than once, so this gift is beyond appropriate.

These nifty whisky stones will chill his drink without watering it down. Throw in some sweet rocks glasses and you’ve got a gift he can enjoy after a long day or share with friends.

Available locally at Unglued
